
Joy Loo Kim is an educator with over fifteen (15) years of experience teaching mathematics in both public high school math (up to AP Calculus level) and in STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Math) fields. As a Board Member of ABA-OC, she is an advocate of career development and leadership. Furthermore, she offers strategic guidance to all stakeholders to empower them with financial literacy and purposeful living. She draws on her own experience growing up as the daughter of Asian immigrants and pursuing a career in both education and business leadership. Kim strives to create partnerships with the business community that provide a heightened sense of belonging and private resources.
Her educational advocacy journey continues in Orange County, where she currently resides with her husband, Alexander. Joy has been presenting on the importance of core beliefs, career, and community at various venues. She is the Director of Operations for the Dragon Kim Foundation, which inspires the youth to impact their communities while discovering and pursuing their passions in three states. She was also recently selected to be on the Board of Directors for Santa Ana College Foundation.
Joy volunteered as the administrator for Boyle Heights VEX IQ robotic competition. She has coordinated the LAUSD-USC (Los Angeles Unified District – University of Southern California) STEM Summer Camp. She served as Secretary in the campus’ School Site and Governing Council to make budgetary decisions, in alignment with the school’s plan for student achievement. She founded Girls Build on two campuses that encourage females in under-represented areas to address community needs through outreach.
Joy studied at University of California at Berkeley and furthered her education with a Math Teaching Credential and a Master of Education in Computer Education and Technology Leadership at Cal State University, Los Angeles. She recently earned her Administrative Services Credential, qualifying her to work at any time as an Assistant Principal or Principal in any school in the State of California and was featured in the podcast, “The Greatest Teacher of All Time”. She’s working on her Certificate of Business Administration at UC Berkeley to further her conceptual knowledge of small business development.
